*Grade 2 families! Please note that your child has a field trip to Telus Spark on October 21st, Fun Lunch day. Students will need to pack a lunch for that trip as Dominoes does not deliver to Telus Spark. 😊 We will keep their order in the office and hand it out at end of day.

Our parking lot is for staff use only from 7:00 am – 4:00 pm; it is closed for the entire evening when there is a school event. Rec House parents are invited to park on the street for drop off and pick up unless it is after 4:00 pm.
SAM SWAG
For families wanting to purchase Sam Swag, our online store is open until October 22nd, 2026. Orders will be delivered to the school 4-5 weeks after the closing date.

Please note that purchasing Sam Swag is always optional and never mandatory for families.
Each of our students is placed into a grouping called a “Famille”, a “family” here at Sam Livingston. Each “Famille” is represented by a specific colour (Purple, Blue, Yellow or Green). Students are invited to wear their Famille colour every Friday to build school spirit and comradery between all of the grades. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you are unsure of your child's Family colour – all siblings in the family have the same colour.
INDIGENOUS MUSIC RESIDENCY
We are thrilled to be welcoming Cree/Métis multidisciplinary artist Chantal Chagnon to Sam Livingston on October 1st and 5th for a drumming and storytelling residency. Students in grades 1-4 will participate in two sessions, and Kindergarten students will participate in a single session.
Alberta Education Screeners (Information and Sharing of Results)
Beginning in the 2026/27 school year, schools are required to conduct literacy and numeracy screenings to all kindergarten to grade 5 (Grade 4 here at Sam Livingston) students.
Literacy and numeracy are essential skills that develop in the critical early years of education. These foundational skills ensure success in later years of a student's education and in later life. Screening students’ learning in literacy and numeracy in their early years provides crucial information to teachers, parents, and Alberta Education and Childcare to help children and students get additional support if they need it. The support noted here is called, “intervention”. At Sam Livingston, intervention is provided within the classroom due to our low class sizes and teachers using a team teaching or re-grouping practice.
School staff will share the literacy and numeracy screening results after the testing period has been completed and data has been compiled. At the November 26th and 27th parent conferences, teachers will provide paper copies of your child’s screener results. We feel that it is essential that teachers have the opportunity to share this data with you in person to best explain the context and content of the results. Please note that the results from the screeners are intended to help teachers identify and address gaps in their students’ foundational understandings of literacy and numeracy.
