Families across Calgary are invited to join the Calgary Board of Education in celebrating Family Literacy Week from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2, to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities.

The CBE Literacy & Early Learning Team has prepared a variety of information and activities to help families engage in meaningful learning at home and at school. Reading together or doing learning activities at home is crucial to a child’s learning and development.

Here’s how families can participate: 

• CBE At-home activities and resources​: Find ways to make learning fun and impactful.  
• Calgary Public Library Family Reading Pick: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle, featuring a family reading adventure with a live performance and themed activities.
• Family Literacy Day at-home activities and resources​: Engage in other literacy-related activities as a family

Since 1999, schools, libraries, literacy organizations and other community groups across Canada have taken part in Family Literacy Day which takes place every Jan. 27.​
