Welcome BBQ and Meet the Teacher/ Book Fair

Join us September 12th from 4:30-5 to meet your child(ren)’s teachers.  Teachers will be in their classrooms, so you can pop in, say hi, and put a face to a name.  Starting at 5pm, School Council is hosting a BBQ on the west compound where hot dogs, chips and water will be served.  All items are complimentary courtesy of School Council.

Sign up if you are planning on attending

Sign up if you can volunteer

Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way! Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers. AND—as always—every purchase at the Fair benefits our school.   The Fair will take place on Thursday from 4:00 to 6:30 in the Labo Créo for students to visit and shop with their families.  Students will also have an opportunity to purchase Thursday morning at school.  Please note, if you are choosing to send money to school with your child that they are responsible for its safety and how it is spent.

Terry Fox Run & Assembly

Friday, September 13 - Terry Fox Pep Rally/Assembly & Run

Parents are welcome to join us outside at 10:15 am (Kinder PM are welcome to attend with guardian. Rec House will be attending.)  We will be gathering by the Kindergarten doors on the West Compound. If the weather is not cooperating, we’ll gather in the gym.

Volunteers will be needed to hand out popsicle sticks as students pass to keep track of their laps. Students are encouraged to donate Toonies that they have earned or saved.  Toonies can be brought to the classroom teacher until September 13, 2024.

EpiPen and Inhalers

Please ensure your child is aware where their Epipen and/or Inhaler is kept.

We request that each student carry their Epipen/ Inhaler on their person in a fanny pack.

If you wish for the item to remain in your child’s backpack, please ensure it is in one pouch/ pocket only – not inside a fanny pack inside a backpack pocket.  In an emergency, this is too many zippers to open.

Playground reminders

Please note that the playgrounds and the school fields are closed to the public between the hours of 7:45 – 2:34.

If you wish to bring your younger children to play in the parks, we ask that you vacate if and when it is in use by the school.

TRAFFIC REMINDERS

  • Please cross at the crosswalks – not between the busses
  • Please do not park in the crosswalks
  • Please be mindful of your speed in all areas around our community, including alleyways
  • Please do NOT walk through the parking lot
  • Please be mindful of pets on leash, they are low to the ground

Even when running late, please follow the traffic guidelines to maintain safety.

French classes for parents

By helping parents, we help our CBE learners.

Chinook Learning Services offers courses specifically designed for parents and caregivers of CBE French Immersion students. For Fall 2024, Chinook Learning Services is once again offering French for Parents – Level 1 classes at Georges P. Vanier School. This eight-week course will help parents of bilingual students learn or refresh their French language skills, build their network of bilingual parents, and support their children’s learning at home.

This course would also be beneficial for any Support Staff who are interested in learning along with parents!

We are so lucky to have her here.
